Let's face it, we live in a consumer society where most of the time we only care for our own benefit without thinking about the damage we do to our world. There are products which are indispensable in our lives, however, in such cases we don’t think about the outside. It's time to stop and to realize the daily damage that the use of packages cause to the Earth. First Steps
DOCUMENTARY
Director: Sebastian Cabrera (International)
Indifference takes hold in societies where, for various reasons, they never manage to get a handle on their problems and change their realities. We go through life adopting habits that are not always positive; indifference is one of them. We see that today in the Dominican Republic we have gotten accustomed to living with solid waste (GARBAGE). We go about our daily lives without the slightest surprise at the makeshift garbage dumps that are appearing all over the place because there are no containers and because of the growing “culture” of putting our trash out on the street in plastic shopping bags. The logistics of garbage collection is also questionable… In this context, recycling has emerged as a business alternative and a source of employment, which is a first step that must be taken in the direction of dealing with this environmental problem. But there is still the plastic bag floating around as a symbol of the specific problem with solutions that lie in education, forming new habits and government measures. A panorama of the city proposes that each of us understands whether we are part of the solution or part of the problem. In the end, the results are an introspection that only leaves space for reflection…
